Privacy Policy
Effective Date: December 20, 2026
1. Introduction
Welcome to ellivian.com (“we,” “our,” or “the Platform”). We value your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information about you when you use our educational platform.
By using our Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information to provide our educational services, track your learning progress, and improve your experience.
A. Information You Provide (Authentication)
We use third-party authentication providers (such as Google and GitHub) to manage user accounts. We do not store your password. When you sign in, we collect:
- Identity Information: Your email address and a unique provider ID (to link your account).
- Profile Data: Basic information such as your name or profile picture, if provided by the authentication service.
B. Usage and Learning Data
We automatically log your activity on the Platform to track your educational history. This data is linked to a pseudonymized User ID (UUID):
- Learning History: Which chapters, nodes, or articles you have viewed.
- Assessment Data: Test completion status, scores, and pass/fail rates.
- Timestamps: When you accessed specific content.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your data strictly for the following purposes:
- Service Provision: To create your account, manage your login session, and restore your progress (e.g., “Resume where you left off”).
- Platform Improvement: To analyze aggregate trends (e.g., identifying difficult chapters) to improve our curriculum.
- Personalized Recommendations: To suggest specific courses, chapters, or learning paths based only on your internal reading history.
- Communication: To send you transactional emails (e.g., subscription receipts, password resets).
Marketing & Sponsorships: We do not sell your personal data to third-party advertisers for behavioral targeting. However, we may display contextual sponsorships or promotional links (e.g., “Sponsored by [Partner]”) directly within the Service. These links are static and do not use your personal learning history to profile you.
4. Cookies
We use cookies strictly to operate the Service.
- Essential Cookies: Required for you to log in and keep your session active.
- Analytics Cookies: Help us understand how many users visit our site and which pages are most popular.
Control: You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies. However, if you do not accept “Essential Cookies,” you may not be able to log in to the Platform.
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal email address. We may share information in the following ways:
- Service Providers: We share data with trusted third-party vendors who assist us in operating our Service (e.g., cloud hosting, database management), strictly for the purpose of performing those services.
- Educational Partners & Experts: If you explicitly request to connect with a Subject Matter Expert (e.g., a tutor, accountant, or consultant) via the Platform, we will share your profile, learning history, and contact details with that specific expert to facilitate the session. We do not share this data without your initiation.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose your data if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.
6. Data Security and Retention
We employ a “Privacy by Design” architecture to protect your data:
- Separation of Data: Your personal identity (email) is stored in a separate, secured database table from your detailed activity logs. Your learning history is linked only to a random User ID (UUID).
- Retention: We retain your personal data only as long as is necessary to provide the Service. If you delete your account, your email address is removed from our active systems.
7. Your Data Rights
Depending on your location (including residents of Canada and the EEA), you have specific rights regarding your data:
- Access: You have the right to request copies of your personal data.
- Correction: You have the right to request that we correct any information you believe is inaccurate.
- Deletion (“Right to be Forgotten”): You have the right to request that we delete your personal account information.
Note on Deletion: Upon request, we will permanently delete your email address and identity linkage. We may retain anonymized usage statistics (which cannot be traced back to you) for aggregate analysis.
8. Third-Party Links
Our Service may contain links to other websites or services (e.g., Google, GitHub) that are not operated by us. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content or privacy policies of any third-party sites.
